Winnie Wright Smith

Winifred “Winnie” Wright Smith, 83, of Goose Creek, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014. Winnie was born November 7, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late William Northrop Wright and Winifred Olive Bartlet. She was a homemaker and an active member of Deer Park Baptist Church. She was the first Worthy Matron of the John L. Flynn Order of the Eastern Star of Goose Creek. Her hobbies included sewing, crossword puzzles, cooking, cross-stitch, crocheting, and collecting clown figurines and coffee cups. Her family remembers her as a loving mother and Nana that devoted her life to putting her family first. Her children’s spouses were treated just as her own. Nana’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. Any gift from Nana was treasured. Besides her parents, Winnie was preceded in death by her most beloved sister Joan Page; and one infant daughter Joan Dantzler Smith. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, William Lowell Smith, Sr. of Goose Creek; two sons, William Lowell Smith Jr. and his wife Vickie of Goose Creek and Mark Jefferson Smith, Sr. and his wife Paulette of Goose Creek; two daughters, Leanne Amari and her husband Joseph of North Augusta, SC and Kelly Smith Bishop and her husband Robert of Summerville; seven grandchildren, Shannon Penley of Summerville, Amanda Muns of North Augusta, SC, Casey Tiller of Goose Creek, Robbie Bishop of Summerville, Mark Smith, Jr. of Columbia SC, Matt Bishop of Florence SC, and Daniel Smith of Auburn, AL; and nine great-grandchildren, Jordan Muns, Alexis Muns, Ansley Muns, Harrison Penley, Logan Tiller, Landon Tiller, Bryce Smith, Cohen Smith, and Ryley Smith. A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm, Wednesday October 8, 2014 in the chapel of McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Tuesday October 7, 2014 in the chapel of McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek Chapel.
