William Henry Steck Jr., 79, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
Born July 14, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late William H. Steck and Doris A. Steck (Kaehler).
Bill was an avid fan of sports, but especially baseball. He was a baseball star in his little league "O Mahoney" in southwest Philadelphia, then onto West Catholic (class of 63) playing for "All Catholic" an all-star team before trying out for the Phillies in his senior year. Followed by a scholarship to Drexel University (class of 69) where he also was a star shortstop. His lifelong love of sports continued, watching his hometown teams Eagles and Phillies. He loved college basketball and March Madness, softball, and high school teams, and especially golf. He loved to play golf and even achieved a "hole in one" before eventually giving it up with back issues. Bill had a smile for everyone who greeted him, he will be greatly missed by his loving family.
William is preceded in death by his parents William and Doris Steck, his sister Helene Jenkins, and his brother Jack Steck (Yuri). He is survived by his son Jeffrey W. Steck and his fiancée, Denise McGlone, Janice his former wife who saw him to the end, Stepson Jonathan Gruber (Abrah) and two granddaughters. Brothers Robert Steck (Sharon) and Joseph Steck (Michelle) nieces, nephews and his favorite "Uncle Frank".
A Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date.
