Dr. William H. Shoemaker Jr., 75, of Charleston, SC passed away peacefully on January 7, 2022 from pneumonia. He is survived Linda C. Shoemaker, his wife of 43 years.
He was born on November 19, 1946 in New Brunswick, NJ, the son of the late William Herbert Shoemaker, Sr. and Mary Buckingham Shoemaker.
He graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ and then obtained his medical degree at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University in 1973.
He served as a physician at the US Army War College, in Carlisle, PA. As a board certified family physician, he then came to Charleston in 1978 and was in private practice. After many years, the practice joined Lowcountry Medical Associates and Roper Physician Partners. He was a kind and caring doctor who often would make house calls or stay late to see patients. He enjoyed bridge, golf, and travel.
In addition to Linda, he is survived by his sister, Katheryn A. Lobley in Wichita Falls, TX and many nieces and nephews!
His brother, Thomas W. Shoemaker, predeceased him along with his parents.
A celebration of his life will be private.
