William Douglas McGuirt of Lancaster passed away Sunday May 8, 2016 at the home of his son Mark in Charleston. He was born April 24, 1941 in Lancaster, a son of James Douglas McGuirt and Thelma Aletha McGuirt. Mr McGuirt was a Lancaster High graduate. William excelled in football and was selected to the Shrine bowl where he received the outstanding back award for the game. He attended Clemson University on a football scholarship and graduated from Erskine College. He served two years in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He attended Saint Stephens Episcopal Church where he served as a Lay Reader and Chalice Bearer. Mr. McGuirt is survived by sons Mark McGuirt of Charleston, Eric McGuirt and his wife HyungMi of Bettendorf, Iowa and two grandchildren Lily and Porter McGuirt. He was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy McGuirt. A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
