Walker Luke Fairchild was the son of Rebecca Childers-Fairchild and Luke David Fairchild. He was delivered on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 12:32 pm. He was 14 weeks, 6 days old and weighed 4.2 oz. Though his lungs never filled with air, he was loved. We are thankful Walker did not suffer and very appreciative of the excellent care we received. Dr. Papadea and the staff at Roper St. Francis were wonderful...a divine meeting for sure. Thanks to our nurse Mika, we were able to get footprints and pictures of Walker. We spent a few hours holding him and mourning the loss...but devastated by our short time together. It was astonishing how therapeutic it was to hold our sweet boy. Honestly, we both thought it would be weird but it touched our hearts in such a unique way. His little body was so small and fragile. The elements of Walker's features created in the womb were astounding. It was amazing how much detail you could see...one more reminder of God's stunning creation.
Walker is deeply loved by his Mommy, Daddy, big brother Skyler, and so many others. He brought our family a lot of joy and hope. Although we are not able to do life with Walker, we are grateful for the 8 siblings he gets to play with in heaven. We look forward to seeing them all someday. We feel called to share Walker and his story with the world. He is precious and God has used him to promote healing and delight in the hearts of many. Miscarriage is not spoken of often. It is surrounded by pain and shame. We want to give it a voice and shake the shame. Upon reflecting, we are trying to remember and acknowledge how faithful God is, rely on Him and the people He has surrounded us with. During this entire process God has granted us small mercies and blessings which have made a difficult situation less painful. The love, gifts and support from family, friends and strangers have been such a blessing. Thank you for helping us celebrate Walker.
