Violette Ann Stevens Hall, 97, of Charleston, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016. Violette Hall was born on May 17, 1918 in Davenport, a very small town in western Virginia. She was the beloved wife of the late Rev. Howard Ray Hall, a United Methodist minister born in Logan County, WA. Together they dedicated their lives to serving in many churches and raising their five children. Violette was a remarkable woman and an inspiration to many. She was a lovely person who always saw the good in everyone. Her family would often relate incidents of complete strangers who came up to her in public places and told her how they enjoyed looking at her and her way of talking and laughing in such a pleasant way. She will be greatly missed. She was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Her leadership qualities led her to serving as a leader in the UMW and her Circle. She was also president of the Women’s Club of Charleston, a leader in the Republican Woman’s Club, and owned a Key West Fashions dress shop in Kiawah and downtown Charleston. To many she was like a gift that kept on giving for 97 years. Her only regret was that too many of her friends passed away long before she did and she missed them so much. Survivors include her son, Harry Ray Hall (Joy), from Chesapeake, VA and her two daughters, Rosemary Hall Taylor and Rebecca Hall Booth, both of James Island, who were her caregivers for 12 years. Also part of her loving family are 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by two sons, Howard Lynn Hall and Michael Leon Hall. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 3pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel with Rev. Don Clendaniel officiating. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery, 3093 Ashley River Rd, Charleston, SC 29414. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
