Vera Berg Zila Magee passed away peacefully on June 05, 2016 at her home in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina surrounded by her family. Vera was born in Skillingard, Sweden on June 27, 1922 and emigrated with her parents, Althea and Bernard Berg, to Cromwell, Connecticut at age five. Her childhood interests included cheerleading at high school games and experimenting with various art media. During her adult years Vera worked at City Hall in Middletown, Connecticut in the Finance Department until her retirement. In her leisure time, Vera enjoyed camping with her sons, producing vegetables and flowers in her garden, cooking wonderful Swedish pastries and meals, cutting the grass, and playing her favorite card game, Skipbo. She also liked to attend Broadway shows and she traveled extensively around the world. After her retirement she and her second husband, Doug, split their time between Vermont and Mount Dora, Florida. They also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe on old antique car trips. Vera is predeceased by two wonderful and loving husbands: Charles J. Zila and Douglas R. Magee, Sr. and one stepson, Billy Magee. She leaves behind her two sons, Robert Zila (Michele), Mt Pleasant SC and Bruce Zila (Faith), Middletown CT. and one stepson, Douglas Magee, Wolfboro NH. She was also the loving grandmother to nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Vera will also be sadly missed by her two favorite Labradoodles Gennie (Gen) and Tonic. The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Lutheran Hospice and Ms. Dray Haynes for providing Vera with both professional and loving support during her most recent illness.
