Varnell is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Alma Nell Welch, as well as his parents, Morris Hunter Welch and Lenora Beard Welch and seven siblings.
Varnell is survived by one sister, Lois Welch Dennis; brother, Lamar Welch (Mary Nell); his daughters, Vonda Welch Strickland (Doug) and Norena Welch; son, Kyle Welch (Pam); grandchildren: Justin Strickland, Kelsey Strickland Rogers (Casey) and Garrett Welch (Carly) and great-grandson, Caine Welch.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, 27th of December, 2023, from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation - Goose Creek, 869 St. James Avenue in Goose Creek, South Carolina.
The service will be held at 1:30 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, with burial to follow after at Whispering Pines Memorial Cemetery in Moncks Corner, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland of Charleston Hospice.
