Troy E. Matthews, 46, of Summerville, SC lost his battle to esophageal cancer on September 13, 2020 surrounded by family and friends. Troy was born on June 7th, 1974 to Brenda Bailey Matthews of Hampton, VA and David William Matthews of Brookfield, PA.
At the time of his passing, Troy was an active duty Chief Maritime Enforcement Specialist in the U.S Coast Guard serving as an Instructor at the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy in Charleston, SC. Troy's love of the Coast Guard and service to his country has taken him to various units along the east coast fulfilling many missions including over 12 years of sea time, totaling over 25 years of honorable service. During his service Troy earned the title of Boarding Team member, Deployable Team Leader and Law Enforcement Instructor. He earned many honors and awards to include a Coast Guard Commendation Medal, four Coast Guard Achievement Medals, two Commandant's Letter of Commendations Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, four Humanitarian Service Medals three Special Operations Service Medals, two Sea Service Ribbons and eight Coast Guard Good Conduct Medals. Troy was an active member of both the National Chief Petty Officers association and the Low Country Chiefs mess.
Troy loved camping, woodworking and going to the range with his daughter Abigail.
After many years of courtship, Ashley Danielle Vincent of Anaheim Hills, CA and Troy Matthews were married on March 26, 2019 in Summerville, SC.
In addition to his wife, Troy is survived by his daughter, Abigail Blythe Matthews, his mother, Brenda Bailey Matthews, his brother Wade Matthews, his sister Traci Matthews, and his nephew Tyler Krecji and a huge Coast Guard family.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 21, 2020 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Mc-Alister-Smith Funeral Chapel at 869 St James Ave, Goose Creek, SC 29445. A Service will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 10:00am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 510 St James Ave, Goose Creek, SC 29445. Burial will follow at 1pm in the Beaufort National Cemetery located at 1602 Boundary St, Beaufort, SC 29902.
