Tony Grover Strickland, 73, of Summerville, SC was born October 11, 1944 and passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017. He was born in Kingstree, SC to parents Grover Benjamin Strickland and Jewell Knudsen (step-parents Billy Strickland, Ralph Lowman, and Warren Knudsen). He was a decorated United States Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. Tony was also a five time Transplant Olympian, winning gold, silver, and bronze. He leaves behind his devoted wife Christine Strickland. The two of them were members of the Midway Baptist Church in Goose Creek, SC. They also enjoyed traveling several times a year to the mountains.
Tony is survived by his loving wife Christine; children, Tammy Christine (Rick) Greggs and Tonya (John) Winberg; grandchildren, Kayla (Tiki) Anchecta, Tequilla Hernandez (Victor) Rosales, Thomas Campbell Jr., Krystal (Cody) Hefner, Tyler Campbell, Justin Tony Strickland, Edie Winberg, and Steven Winberg; great-grandchildren, Alani, Marianna, J.T., Jameson, and Logan; and step-siblings, Gerald (Sue Danztler), Deloris (Joe) Stevenson, Dale (Stella) Knudsen, Tommy Knudsen, and Marie Harley. Tony is predeceased by his father, Grover B. Strickland and step-brother Danny Danztler.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 3:00pm at Midway Baptist Church, 506 St James Ave, Goose Creek, SC 29445. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 4:00pm at the church as well.
