It is with great sadness that the family of Tina Baker McGuire announces her passing after a battle with cancer on Friday, May 4, 2018 at the age of 62. She was surrounded by her loving family. Tina will be dearly missed by her daughter, Julia Peyton McGuire; her sister, Marsha Reier; her father, Rufus “Ed” Baker; and her family, Jennifer and Jerry Scarbrough and Benjamin and Deborah Gillikin. Tina was predeceased by her mother, Delores “Dee” Baker.
Tina began her 30+ year career in the federal government in 1988 as a Department of the Army Contracting Intern. From there, she worked at the United States Department of the Treasury, the National Institutes of Health, the Office of Personnel Management, and the National Credit Union Administration in Procurement. She earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering Technology from Murray State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from the University of Maryland. At the end of 2015, Tina retired from the federal government and moved to Charleston, SC. In her free time, Tina loved to volunteer and was a mentor for SCORE, a nonprofit association partnered with the Small Business Administration which is dedicated to helping small businesses.
Per Tina’s request, there will be no funeral service. Instead, there will be a celebration of life for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can go to the Charleston branch of SCORE at
