Terri Ann Gorin, 60, of Reevesville, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Roper Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
She was born on April 9,1963 in Evreux, France, daughter of the late Msgt. Joseph Gorin, Jr. and Cleda (Keys) Gorin.
Terri graduated from Hanahan High School in 1981. She received her Histotechnology Certificate and her Bachelor of Science degree from the Medical University of SC in Health Sciences in Administration and Education. Terri went on to a fulfilling career in healthcare where her passion was overseeing the training of new Histotechs, which were many, and watching them thrive. She began her employment at Richland Memorial hospital in Columbia, SC as Supervisor in Histology while also working as a consultant at Dermpath Diagnostics. Next Terri worked as Lead Histotechnologist and Safety Manager with Quest Diagnostics in Mt. Pleasant, SC. She then took a position as Anatomic Pathology and Phlebotomy Manager, and for a time Co-Director, for the lab at RMC of Orangeburg, SC later owned by Quest Diagnostics and most recently acquired by MUSC.
Throughout her career, Terri's focus was always on delivering excellent patient care by maintaining high work standards. Terri would say first she was a Christian and devoted to her prayer time. She adhered to "JOY" (Jesus, Others, Yourself). Those who knew her would say she was a kind, loving spirit who had an infectious laugh that brightened and filled a room. Many did not know that she struggled with health issues, which affected her body, but her spirit remained untouched. Terri enjoyed calligraphy, cooking, and was an avid reader. She loved her family and friends so dearly and cherished the good times spent with them. Every day Terri shared a "good morning, good night, love you" with her little sister, Sheri. She adored and was so proud of her nephew, Joe and his family. Terri loved and was devoted to her late "dog child", Morgen, and Deb (in that order) but always had room in her heart to care for stray animals in the neighborhood. She never met a stranger and always took the time to listen, if someone needed to talk. Terri had a smile that won your heart over quickly and gave surprisingly strong bear hugs given her petite stature. What a beautiful soul! The world is a darker place with her gone, but her light shines on through the lives of those she touched. She will be greatly missed by all especially her family and most keenly by Deb.
Her family would like to acknowledge the excellent level of care given to Terri by the doctors, nurses, and medical professionals during her recent hospital stay, as well as those who cared for her over the years. We would also like to thank all of those who lifted Terri's name in prayer.
Terri is survived by her sister, Sheri Gorin of North Charleston, SC; a nephew, Joseph M. Gorin (Valerie) of Summerville, SC; great-nieces, Aubrey and Lorelai Gorin; brother-in-law, Ernest Smith of Summerville, SC; and soulmate of 39 years, Debra Walters of Reevesville, SC.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Vicki Gorin and Cindy Smith.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 869 St James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445. The family will receive visitors from 1:30 - 2:30 PM, with services to follow at 2:30 PM. A private inurnment will occur at a later date.
