Susann Christiansen Cumbee, passed away on June 26, 2017.
Susann was born on April 27, 1948 in Berkeley, California. She graduated from Rivers High School in 1967 and worked for the Post and Courier as Executive Secretary for over 28 years.
Susann enjoyed family and friends and showed her love for both by hosting holiday dinners, wedding and baby showers, as well as parties for birthdays and reunions. Her attention to every detail made people feel welcomed and loved. She enjoyed baking and outdoor activities. She became an avid golfer, but her real love was her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Harry Jens Christiansen and Doris Burt Christiansen.
She is survived by her husband Clarence “Gene” Cumbee, her daughters April Brooks and her husband John of Beaufort, Tammy Reed and her husband Robert of Sumter, and her son James “Jay” Cumbee of Charleston. She has five grandchildren, Amanda Hansil, Kyle Brooks, Sloan Reed, Robert Reed Jr. and James Cumbee, Jr. along with her great-grandchildren Charlotte Hansil and Eli Pence.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel.
A funeral service will be at 3 PM on Friday, June 30, 2017 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
