Susan “Wink” Wingard Latimer was born September 6, 1950 at Liverman Clinic in Lexington, SC to Gerald W. Wingard and Virginia Ann Corley Wingard.
She was christened at St. Michael’s Church in Irmo and continued her Christian education as a member of Lexington’s Pilgrim Lutheran Church, participating in the youth and adult choirs. She was especially close to the Reverend Elford Roof of Pilgrim and the Reverend Howard Sail of Hilton Head Island. She attended school in Lexington and graduated from Dreher High School in Columbia, SC.
She was previously married to George Ernest Hightower and they share 3 children: George Michael Hightower, Everette Lance Hightower, and Corley Colleton Hightower Ginn.
Susan has been a member of St. Andrew’s Church of Mt. Pleasant since 1990 where she was a Sunshine leader for the children’s ministry, on the altar guild, and a member, along with her daughter Corley, of the hand bell choir. She loved life, loved to travel, and had a jovial spirit.
She is survived by husband Walter Bennett “Ben” Latimer, her 3 children, her aunt Mary Ann Cumalander, and numerous cousins, step children, and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society in memory of Susan.
