Cairns, FNQ, Australia – Susan “Susie” Marie Conrad Jarman, age 67, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Cairns Base Hospital after a short illness.
Susie was born May 8, 1954, in Los Angeles, California, the first of 5 children of the late F. Herbert and Patricia Marie Conrad. The family settled in Greenville, SC where Susie graduated from JL Mann High School and then attended the University of South Carolina earning her nursing degree. She had a passion for traveling, which took her around the world. Australia, the Land of OZ, captured her heart. The coastal town of Yorkeys Knob is where she chose to plant roots and start a new life, establishing a nursing career, raising a family, and divulging in the true Aussie life of camping and sailing.
Susie was a free spirit and impacted many lives through her generous quest for “being a risk taker, a problem solver and living for the moment”. A woman of many artistic talents, such as theater, painting, sewing and cooking, she never hesitated to share her wisdom. On her travels, she always tried to learn the culture of the area she was visiting and bond with the local people.
Susie loved to celebrate life’s occasions - holidays, birthdays (and more) with themes, costumes and parties, satisfying her love of shopping and generous gift giving. She has touched the hearts of many, leaving fond memories of loving experiences.
Susie is survived by her daughter, Casey Jarman Day (Matt), of Western Australia; her grandchildren, Clara, and Violet; and family in the USA including her brother, John Conrad; her three sisters, Joyce O’Brien (Thom); Liz Facchini (Joe), Tracy Richter (David) and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Susie was predeceased by her son, Scott Conrad Jarman.
Susie embraced this favorite quote from Alex MacLean:
Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and very dear.”
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Monica's Cathedral, 181 Abbott St., Cairns City QLD 4870, Australia.
Susie will be laid to rest beside her son Scott at the Cairns Martyn Street Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and family following service at the Yorkeys Knob Boat Club, 29 Buckley St, Yorkeys Knob QLD 4878, Australia.
