Susan Lewis Karriker

Susan Lewis Karriker, beloved mother and friend, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023, in Charleston, SC. Born on August 9, 1948, in her hometown of Charleston, Susan's vibrant spirit and selfless nature touched the lives of everyone she encountered.

Susan dedicated over 25 years of her life working at the Naval Shipyard in Charleston, SC. Through dedication and perseverance, Susan established herself as a respected member of the shipyard community.

Education was an essential part of Susan's journey. She proudly graduated from James Island High School. 

Susan loved and enjoyed spending time with her only grandchild, Hannah J. Mains and the fun trips skating, Chick-fil-A and many special shopping trips. Her two main hobbies of bowling and playing pool brought her immense joy and allowed her to connect with friends and family. Susan also loved going to the beach to relax with family and friends. 

Those who had the privilege of knowing Susan will fondly remember her selflessness and unwavering kindness. She possessed the ability to put others before herself. She genuinely loved people but did have a rugged side to that love. 

Susan's Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10:00am at Miles Road Baptist Church, 816 Miles Road, Summerville, SC 29485.

Susan's passing was bittersweet yet filled with profound love as she was surrounded by her two adoring sons and daughter-in-law during her final moments. C. Shawn Mains, Michael Scott Mains, and Jessica T. Mains provided comfort and support as she peacefully entered her eternal rest.

Susan is survived by her sons, C. Shawn Mains and Michael Scott Mains (Jessica), one granddaughter, Hannah J. Mains, held a special place in her heart and brought immense joy to her life.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Preston Lewis. 

Susan Lewis Karriker will forever be remembered for the love she shared, the kindness she extended to others, and the mark she left on this world. While our hearts may ache at her absence, we find comfort in knowing that her memory will continue to guide us in acts of compassion and selflessness.
