Susan O'Rourke Banks

Susan O'Rourke Banks, 85, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. 

Born on November 1, 1938 in Charleston, SC, Susan was a daughter of the late John Farrell and Marie Myrtle (Hook) O'Rourke.

Susan enjoyed gardening, shopping, garage and estate sales, and shopping at Habitat for Humanity on Johns Island. She was involved with the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the American Revolution, and First Families of South Carolina. She was of the Catholic faith and in her later years attended the Harville Baptist Church in Brooklet, GA.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Myrtle Marie Maskell and Pauline Ida O'Rourke.

Susan is survived by two daughters, Susan Sexton (Ed) and Paula Whitaker (John); four grandchildren: Vaughn, Christopher, Elizabeth, and Alexis; three great-grandchildren: Cooper, Elliott, and Benjamin; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation - James Island, 347 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412, 843-614-8494.

The funeral service will follow with Dr. John Whitaker officiating at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at 2:00 pm after the funeral service at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
