Sundru “Sunny” Elizabeth Smith, 72, of Goose Creek, wife of late Floyd “Gene” E. Smith, entered into eternal rest on March 13, 2022.
Born on February 13, 1950, in Nashville,
Sunny was a daughter of the late Chester Jackson and Jeanette Jackson. She met Gene at a young age and established their family by having three sons shortly thereafter. Sunny spent a majority of her early adult life traveling the world with Gene, who was in the Navy.
After settling in Charleston, Sunny and Gene served as foster parents to several troubled children in the area, one of whom, they adopted. Her family was the focal point of her life and would often praise the times she was able to see everyone together. Sunny was a very loving person who always wanted to make those around her laugh and smile. She enjoyed writing poetry, solving puzzles, and watching movies in her free time. Her sense of humor and personality were second to none, and she will forever be missed by her friends and family. She often said that she was excited to meet the “Good Lord” and to see Gene again. Now, she is at peace and finally able to do so.
Sunny is survived by her sons, Dale T. Smith of Ackworth, GA, Steven D. Smith, David C. Smith, and Nicholas D. Smith of Charleston, SC, and her brother, Thomas Burrington.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 1:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation (Goose Creek). The grave-side service and burial will be held at Plantation Memorial Gardens at 2:30 PM.
