Stephen Anthony Weninger, 97, of Ladson, died December 20, 2014. He was born, September 22, 1917 in Passaic, New Jersey, to his parents the late Michael of Fehér County, Hungary and Julia (Herman) Weninger of Sümeg County, Hungary. Stephen was a retired machinist, tool and dye maker with Aircraft Engineering. He previously owned and operated his own butcher and grocery store, Jewell Dairy and Grocery, in Garfield, NJ. Stephen was a member of the St. Stephen’s Hungarian Church, St. Stephens Holy Name Society, member of Knights of Columbus, and a 25 year member of St. John’s the Beloved Catholic Church in Summerville. He was an amazing saxophonist and belonged to a jazz band that often accompanied the late greats before their fame; he was also a volunteer fireman, scout master, loved spending time with his family, traveling, and deep sea fishing. Stephen’s most favorite hobby was ballroom dancing with his beloved wife, Anna. They competed in many competitions with their close friends. Stephen is survived by and will be deeply missed by his family including, three sons: Stephen Weninger of Greer, Thomas Weninger of Summerville, and Michael Weninger of Charleston; eight grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Eslinger Weninger; three sisters, Rosa, Mary, and Anna; brother, Michael Weninger. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm, Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek Chapel.
