CHARLESTON - Stella Thomas Megna, 77, of Charleston, SC died on September 8, 2014 following an extended illness. Stella was born on February 26, 1937 in Charleston, SC to the late Ida Annie Thomas and the late Angelo Megna Sr. She completed Moultrie High School in the class of 1955, the College of Charleston where she received her B.S. in 1959 and the Citadel where she received her M.A. in 1975. A Phi Beta Kappa member, Stella went on to enjoy a rewarding career in education here in the Charleston area teaching on the elementary and junior high levels and at Greeleyville High School. When she wasn't teaching, Stella traveled (to Canada, Russia, and Germany) and collected antiques. Following her retirement from teaching she served as a manager of Terrace Oaks Antique Mall. She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. Stella also enjoyed cooking, reading, embroidery, going to the NC mountains, and motorhome camping. Stella will be deeply missed by her life partner, traveling companion and dearest friend of 48 years, Martha Lee (Marty) Brailsford. In addition to Martha, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Florence Jackson Megna and her nephew, Angelo Megna, III (Nicole), all of Awendaw, SC. Stella was predeceased by her parents as well as her brother, Angelo Megna, Jr. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 11, 2014, from 5pm to 7pm at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, JAMES ISLAND CHAPEL, 347 FOLLY RD., CHARLESTON, SC. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 11am with interment immediately following at Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
