Shirley W. Barry (Willis)

Shirley W. Barry, 93, of Mt. Pleasant, SC died on Thursday, January 21, 2016, widow of Arthur W. Barry. She was born on Wednesday, April 19, 1922 in Port Arthur, TX to the late Mrs. Gertrude Bartel Willis and the late Mr. William Sherman Willis. Shirley was a graduate of Bishop England High School, volunteered for the National Catholic Community Service Organization during WWII, and then met the love of her life on the church steps of The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and they married within the year. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, working as an accountant and volunteering at Christ Our King Roman Catholic Church. Her family remembers her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She is survived by six children, Belle B. Dubis (Daniel), of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Lorraine B. Russell (Chris), of Charleston, SC, Joseph W. Barry (Pat), of Bluffton, SC, Doris W. Barry, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Clare B. Carpenter, of Saluda, NC and Christine B. Hayes (Carter), of Moncks Corner, SC; twenty-one grandchildren, Melissa Pait (Dustin), Bryan Dubis (Caroline), Shaun Dubis, Sara Smith (Ernest), Evan Russell (Christina), Jon Russell (Ashley), Amanda Perry (Joshua), Lindsay Barry (Tim), Kevin Barry, Jason MacNeal (Rebecca), Dana MacNeal, Theresa Reese (Kevin), Kurt Aaron Kruger (Jill), Luke Carpenter, Catherine Nearpass (Nate), Renee Pratt (Ken), Trey DuPont, Mandy Hayes, Timmy DuPont, Joshua Hayes; twenty-two great grandchildren, Hannah, Julia and Sawyer Pait, Chris, Porter and Mary Adele Dubis, Wyatt and Waverly Smith, Maddie, Austin, Caden, Leona, and Ewan Russell, Nora Perry, Satorri and Orion Barry, Jay, Drew and RC MacNeal, Khloe, Nova, and Liam Pratt; Special Friends, Mickey Thompson, Marie Donnelly, and David George ; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her loving parents, husband of fifty-eight years, Arthur W. Barry; two brothers, W. Sherman Willis and Joseph Willis; one sister, Mary W. Hank; and one grandson, Nathan Russell. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 25, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464, where the Rosary will be recited at 5:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ Our King Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her honor to ECCO, 1145 Six Mile Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466.
