Sharon Ann Warren left this world on December 5, 2024. Born March 22, 1950 and raised in Battle Creek, MI, Sharon graduated with an associate degree in nursing in 1971 and worked at Bronson Hospital where she met her forever love and husband, George F. Warren, married in 1972.
Sharon and George soon found their way to Summerville, South Carolina where they raised five children and made lifelong friends. Taking a break from nursing in her children’s early years, her five children knew her as the mom that did it all. There were more carpools, clubs, and practices than any one person should have to endure, but what they remember is a mom that was there for them at every turn. They later moved to the Charleston area where Sharon and George remained for the rest of their lives.
Sharon was a wonderful hostess who loved the holidays and entertaining guests. She regularly had a house full of friends and family alike. In Sharon’s house everyone was welcome and well fed, her thirteen grandkids doubly so. Family still ask for recipes and repeats of her cooking from her poppyseed chicken to her cheesecake brownies.
Outside family and work, Sharon always had a project and stayed civically engaged throughout her life. Over the years she helped lead Summerville’s Flowertown Festival, drove for Meals on Wheels, served on various PTAs, taught Sunday School, served as a church Elder, and volunteered with Hope House. She caught the running bug and in 1985 took her family with her to Washington, DC where she ran the Marine Corps Marathon. Sharon often put others before herself but also never gave up on her own dreams, completing her bachelor’s degree in 2011.
Sharon was multifaceted. For years, many knew her as the head nurse of Roper’s Seven South surgical stepdown unit. Her aging parents and husband found in her a caretaker when their health faltered. Many found Sharon as a mentor and good friend when they most needed it. Her starring role, however, was as “Grama” to 13 grandchildren, many of whom have forever fond memories of going to “Camp Grama,” in Montreat, NC. No matter how people came to know Sharon, she was always someone who worked without complaint leaving those she touched knowing they were loved and cared for.
Sharon is survived by her sisters Sandy Berryman of Northville, MI; Shelly (Paul) Bartzen of Delton, MI; brother Steve (Joyce) Harris of Pueblo, CO; sons, Todd Alexander Fritzel Warren (Valerie) of Greensboro, NC; Scott Nicholas Warren of Daniel Island, SC; Matthew Clay Warren (Elizabeth) of Mount Pleasant, SC; daughters, Jill Warren King (Bruce) of Mount Pleasant, SC; Joy Warren Klingemann (Patrick) of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; and thirteen grandchildren.
