Sarah Elizabeth Sewall (Taylor)

Sarah Elizabeth Sewall, 99, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. She was born on Tuesday, December 26, 1916, in Florence, SC, daughter of the late Rachel Godwin Taylor and the late Witfield Taylor. Sarah was a charter member of Grace on the Ashley Baptist Church. She lovingly taught Sunday school for over fifty years, and volunteered with women’s missions groups. In her younger years, she was a Boy Scout den leader and enjoyed rug hooking. Sarah enjoyed walking and visiting with neighbors. She will be remembered by her family as the energetic Mrs. Clean. Besides her parents, Sarah is preceded in death by her husbands: George E. McAteer, Fred C. Hess and Norman K. Sewall. She is survived by her daughter, Trudy Hess and her husband, Don, of Charleston, SC; two sons: George H. McAteer and his wife, Bettie, of Eutawville, SC and Kenneth D. McAteer and his wife, Mary, of Clearwater, FL; seven grandchildren: Brian Hess, Dean McAteer, Dawn McAteer, Keith McAteer, Karen Scovell, Tammy Smith and Scott McGrain; three sisters: Marie Tomlinson of Belvedere, SC; Gladys McGee of Jacksonville, FL and Margaret Grimsley of Florence, SC; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel, where her funeral service will immediately follow. Burial will be in Live Oak Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, 2090 Executive Hall Rd, # 130, Charleston, SC 29407.
