Sandra Scruggs Boyd passed away peacefully at her Folly Beach residence on July 22, 2017.
She was born on October 6, 1942, the daughter of Francesca Boynton Grimaldi of Hendersonville, SC and Jack Scruggs, Jr. of McCormick, SC. Sandra was a graduate of New Hanover High School and attended University of South Florida.
In 1967, she met her future husband, Ralph E. Boyd, M.D. The family story is that, for him, it was love at first sight and he shocked her by a proposal after just a couple of dates. They had a deep love and wonderful marriage until his untimely death in 1998. Sandra then moved to Folly Beach where she developed many strong relationships with her second family at the Crab Shack. She was a beautiful, lively and kind friend to those that were fortunate enough to have known her. She will leave an empty space in many lives.
She was predeceased by her son, James David Boyd and her brother, Lt. Col. Frank Timothy Scruggs. She leaves behind her son, Christopher Brent Boyd and his wife, Currie of Mt. Pleasant, SC, granddaughters Lauren, Stephanie, and Bentley, her daughter-in-law, Cynthia Boyd of Kentucky, her great grandsons, Christian and Raylin, and her brother Tom Scruggs and his wife, Sandy. She will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews, her cousins and sisters-in-law (who considered her a beloved sister), Alfie Herring and her Folly Beach family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charleston Animal Society, Pet Helpers, or the American Heart Association.
There will be a visitation McAlister-Smith Funeral Home from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm followed a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm.
A celebration of Sandra's life will take place at the Crab Shack on Folly Beach at 3:30pm following the service.
