Emblem

Samuel “Sam” G. Snyder 87 of Palm Beach Gardens, FL passed away peacefully and with family in Mount Pleasant, SC on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

Sam was a loving husband and father and is survived by his two boys, Sam and Bob. He was a grandfather to five grandkids and a great-grandfather to five beautiful grandbabies, (and counting).

Sam was born in Reading, PA on October 28, 1937. He graduated from Reading Senior High School in 1954 and joined the US Air Force in 1955. His Air Force career took him to bases all over the United States. His time on base in Alaska left the biggest impact on him, and he carried a fascination with the state throughout his life.

After the Air Force, Sam met the love of his life, Veronica (to him, “Verney”) while attending a Technical School in Pittsburgh, PA. Sam and Verney married on June 4, 1960. After their first son was born, Sam accepted a job with Pratt & Whitney, and the family moved to South Florida. Sam worked for P&W for 35 years and retired in 1996.

Throughout his life, Sam enjoyed boating and ocean fishing in South Florida. He enjoyed playing golf and was a passionate NASCAR fan. Sam and Verney were avid travelers and took trips all over the world. Sam was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Moose Lodge where he went to dance. Sam loved to dance. He also loved Gator football. Having put both his sons through college at the University of Florida, he never missed watching the Gators play football on Saturdays.

Sam was active in the Lutheran Church. He served on the Church Council and was always ready to lend a hand performing maintenance or improvements to his church. After his wife died from Alzheimer’s in 2006, he provided comfort and counsel to many similarly affected by the disease.

It was Sam’s final wish to have his ashes scattered at the mouth of the Palm Beach Inlet in West Palm Beach, Florida and join his beloved Verney for all eternity.
