Russell Allen Runey

Russell Allen Runey, 44 of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away on Tuesday, July 30,2024.Born on November 16, 1979 in Charleston. He was a son of Barbara Reynolds Runey and James Bean Runey, Jr.

Russell grew up in Charleston, and was a loving, devoted husband, father, and son. He attended Blessed Sacrament School and graduated from Bishop England High School. Russell went on to graduate from Francis Marion University with a degree in Mass Communications with a minor in Political Science. He also received his Professional Human Resource Certificate from Trident Technical College. Russell was employed as a Human Resource Specialist-EEO/AA at MillerKnoll, a global furniture company.

In his younger years, Russell enjoyed playing football, baseball, and basketball at St. Andrews Playground. He passed his love of sports onto his children and helped coach them in football and baseball. He was an avid Carolina Gamecocks and Atlanta Braves fan. Russell is a member of Christ Our King-Stella Maris Catholic Church. 

Russell is preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Beatrice Reynolds and Jim and Audrey Runey, aunt, Marie Reynolds Daniel, and his uncle Thomas Reynolds.

Russell is survived by his wife Melissa McMillan Runey; sons, Coleman Reynolds Runey and Griffin Marshall Runey; mother, Barbara Reynolds Runey; father James Bean Runey, Jr.; brothers James Runey, III (Linda), and Kevin Runey (Beth) and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. 

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at McAllister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm. The Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 6th at Stella Maris Catholic Church, at 1204 Middle Street, Sullivan’s Island. The burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens in Mt Pleasant. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Our King-Stella Maris School or Bishop England High School.
