Roy Truman, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away on September 11, 2019 at the age of 77. Born in South Shields, England on February 3, 1942, he was the son of the late Eva Mannion and Leslie Truman.
Roy was an electrical engineer by degree and obtained his education at South Shields Marine & Technical College. Roy was the third-generation legacy member of the South Shields Free Masons at the Tyne Dock Lodge 4218. Roy spent the majority of his lengthy career performing undersea salvage operations for both federal and commerical clients. His travels throughout the world allowed him to live on 3 continents and in 6 countries but chose to retire here in the Lowcountry to be close to his grandchildren. In his retirement, Roy stayed active and completed the Pilgrimage El Camino de Santiago in September of 2018.
Roy was an active outdoorsman. He was an avid marathon runner, soccer player, motorcycle enthusiast and most important a lifetime supporter and hero to his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Glenda Truman of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; daughter, Gabrielle Bahrami of Baltimore,MD; son, Justin Truman and husband Ronald Trotter of Mt. Pleasant, SC; son, Rodney Truman and wife Nikki Truman of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and beloved grandchildren Isabel Truman and Maxwell Truman.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and a Celebration of Life Service to commence at 6:00 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.
