Ronald C. Lundstrom, 65, of James Island, died suddenly at home on April 25, 2017.
He is survived by his wife Martha (Mardy) MacKinnon Lundstrom, of Boston, MA, a retired RN and his daughter Karin E. Lundstrom and son Kenneth C. Lundstrom, both of Charleston. His sister, Pamela Lundstrom Talbot and her husband Drew of Peabody, MA, sister-in-laws Sheryl Lundstrom of Danvers, MA and Rosemary Schraeder of NH, a brother-in-law Fraser N. MacKinnon of MA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron was born in Lynn, MA on March 15, 1952. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University in Boston in 1975. He worked for National Marine Fisheries Service Laboratory in Gloucester, MA for twenty-two years. He received a Silver Medal from the US Department of Commerce for his pioneering work in monoclonal antibodies and published numerous articles on species identification using Isoelectric Focusing. His method was the gold standard at the time.
After the lab closed he transferred to Charleston, SC and worked in Forensics at the National Ocean Service Lab at Ft. Johnson for eighteen years before retiring.
He was a member of the James Island Yacht Club and enjoyed his Boston Whaler for many years.
A gathering of friends will be held on Friday evening, April 28, 2017 from 5pm to 7pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel.
