Roland “Bill” William Sacks, 82, of North Charleston, SC, husband to Charlotte Myers Sacks of 58 years, entered into eternal rest on February 20, 2022, surrounded by his family.
Born on February 16, 1940 in Sellersville, PA, Bill was a son of the late Victor Sacks and Bette Meyers Sacks.
Bill graduated from Pennridge High School, and immediately enlisted in the US Navy. He completed 20 years of service, retiring as a CPO Boatswain’s Mate. He served on destroyers and mine sweepers in the Atlantic, Pacific, Mediterranean and Haiphong Harbor. Bill served 24 years as a police officer with the SC State Ports Authority, retiring to a leisurely life in 2002. He loved all animals, especially his horse and many dogs, and other animals. His family will remember him as a loving, caring, and loyal man with a quick-witted smile.
Bill is survived by his wife, Charlotte Sacks; his daughter, Christine Sacks; granddaughter, Delaney Renee Brockenfelt; brother, Dennis Sacks (Donna); and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 28, 2022, one hour prior to the service in the parlor of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive, Charleston, SC 29407. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the nave of the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive, Charleston, SC 29407 or the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406.
