Roger Leonard Burriss

Roger Leonard Burriss, 62, of Summerville, passed away March 23, 2017.
Born in Harve Grace, MD, he was the son of the late Rhudell Burriss and Eleanor Louise Hoskins and husband to ShirleyVelasquez Burriss. Roger served his country for twenty three years in the United States Navy, retiring as an Engineman Chief Petty Officer. He went on to work as an assistant manager in infrastructure engineering, retiring from ICE Charleston. Roger is credited with beginning the Amber Alert program in South Carolina. He is a member of VFW Post 3433, the American Legion, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Tri-County Bikers Helping Bikers and Tri-County Goldwings.
Roger is survived by his wife of thirty five years, Shirley Burriss; children, Roger Michael Burriss and wife Lindsay of New York, Bobbi Jo Burriss of Goose Creek, Julie Burriss Gotel and husband William of North Charleston, Nathaniel Burriss and wife Megan of Summerville, Jonathan Burriss of Florida and Leanne Burriss of Summerville; grandchildren, Derek, Clarissa, Shyanne, Joseph, Sarah, Ramona, Isabella and Nathan; great grandchildren, Dalton, Denim, Sophie and Carter; siblings, Joyce Halladay, Larry Stevens, Douglas Stevens, Rhudell Burriss, Linda Hoskins, Michael Hoskins, Robin Hoskins, Jeffrey Hoskins, Carolyn Marolf and Charlotte Schwitzer; his second mother, Rose Marolf.
He was predeceased by his parents, his second father, John Marolf and granddaughter Annabelle Burriss.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 510 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek. Inurnment will follow with military honors at Mepkin Abbey Columbarium.
Following the inurnment family will receive friends at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Community Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tri-County Wings, Chapter “G” Team, P.O. Box 61885, North Charleston, SC 29419.
