Robert Lee Wellman, Sr.

Robert Lee Wellman Sr., 76 of Ladson, South Carolina, husband of Inez Wellman, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

Born on October 16, 1945 in Monaville, WV was a Son of the late Gleema Hensley Wellman and Paris Wellman.

Robert served two tours in Vietnam as a member of the United States Navy, Mekong Delta River Patrol. After 24 years of service in the Navy, Robert attended Trident Technical College to study horticultural.  Robert began his second career at Porter Gaud in Charleston, South Carolina, as the Senior Grounds Keeper and retired after 12 years. Robert loved fishing, gardening and landscaping.  In his earlier years he had a passion for training and riding Tennessee Walking horses, in horse shows.  Winning quite a few championships.  Robert will be remembered as a loving father, husband, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ira Wellman, James, Wellman, and Fred Wellman, and a sister Dorothy Wellman Brackins.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his sons: Robert (Anita) Wellman and Patrick Wellman; a sister, Deloris Wellman Wyatt: granchildren: Jesse Wellman, Ashley Wellman (Ryan Gonzalez), Shanna Wellman (Justin Orso), and Skyler Wellman , and a great grandson, Cayden Gonzalez, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 28 2022, from  12:00 PM -  1:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation, 869 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, South Carolina. Services will follow at 1PM.  Burial will conclude with Military Honors at Whispering Pines Memorial Gardens, 3044 Old Hwy. 52, Moncks Corner, South Carolina.
