Robert Luhn, Jr, age 46, of North Charleston, SC passed away unexpectedly on May 31, 2023.
Born on Dec 28, 1976 to Robert Sr and Debra (McEachern) Luhn, Robert grew up in Charleston and lived his life here, with deep ties to the community. He graduated from Middleton High School and was on the yearbook editor and on the tennis team there.
He attended College of Charleston, University of South Carolina, and University of Southern California, and received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Presbyterian College in 1999 and his MBA from Phoenix University. He was in the Presbyterian College Choir and performed in Europe with them.
Robert was a great performer and participated in the annual Heritage Ghost Walk at Magnolia Cemetery where his great-great- grandfather Gustav was buried. Gustav immigrated from Germany at 16 was the bookkeeper in company F for the 1st regiment of the NC Cavalry.
Robert lived a life of service, working as a Constable for the North Area II Magistrate Court where he was known for jumping in to help his co-workers, his quirky jokes, and Tuesday’s extra shots of espresso. He was active in the Exchange Club of Charleston as well, volunteering over 40 hours every year at the annual Coastal Carolina Fair, which donates their profits to local charities. He won the contest for most ticket sales multiple years.
Rob was also a Distinguished Toastmaster. He served as club president for the local Daybreak Toastmasters Club as well as serving as Area 22 Director, Division B Director, District 58 Parliamentarian, and Program Quality Director. In May 2023, he was elected District 58 Director. Rob was awarded the Appreciation Award for Outstanding and Dedicated Service two times. In Toastmasters, Rob was known for giving time to anyone who asked for assistance, his passion/vast knowledge of Robert's Rules of Order, and his humor.
Robert had a wicked sense of humor and could always be counted on to make a cryptic joke. He was devoted to his dog, Spencer, that he rescued as an abandoned puppy and they walked long miles together. Well, Spencer would walk and Rob would cheat and ride his scooter.
He loved being an uncle to his nephew Samuel and having water balloon fights with him that left them both soaking. They relished nerf gun wars, games of chase, and Country Time Lemonade together. School events, soccer practices, and sleepovers, he was there. Uncle Rob was adored, appreciated, and loved.
Robert was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Wesley and Kathleen Luhn, maternal grandparents Furman and Myra L. McEachern, uncle Wesley “Dee” Luhn, aunt Jan Luhn, and his uncle Edward Smoak.
He is survived by his parents Robert and Debra M. Luhn, his sister Jodie Marie-Luhn Almeida, and his nephew Samuel, all of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
