Robert J. Franklin, Sr. 67, of Moncks Corner, passed away on April 30, 2016. He was born July 21, 1948 to the late Joseph Franklin and Carrell Larthey. Robert served 43 years at the Lindenwold Fire Department, where he was also a life member, 10 years as President, 15 years as Chief Engineer, and five years as Safety Officer. He was a certified Fire Marshall and Fire Inspector for the town of Lindenwold, NJ. He retired after serving 25 years as a Senior Corrections Officer with the New Jersey State Department of Corrections. Bob was also the Co-Founder and President of FOP Lodge 55. Robert and his wife, Karen moved to Moncks Corner, SC in 2013, looking forward to a warmer climate for retirement. He continued another 3 ½ years in the fire service with Pimlico Fire Department as a Captain and Safety Officer. Former member of Rolling Thunder and Last Patrol MC, where is served as the Parliamentarian. Bob is survived by his son, Robert J. Franklin Jr.; daughter, Staci L. Franklin; step son, Samuel Townsend; grandchildren, Tyler James and Christina Clement, Michael and Samantha Townsend; and many other loving family members and friends. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his loving wife of 15 years Karen Stevens Franklin and his brother Raymond Mullen. A visitation will be held Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose Creek Chapel. A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 8, 2016 at 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
