Robert Grayson Greene

Robert Grayson (Bob) Greene of Johns Island, SC entered into eternal rest on July 6, 2023.  He was born July 30,1931 in Emanuel County, Georgia and was the youngest child of Daniel Edward Greene and Flora Greenway Greene.

Bob was a Marine Corps Veteran and was of the Baptist faith.  He graduated from Commercial High School and studied Business Administration at Armstrong State College in Savannah, GA.

Bob was employed with North Brothers Company then Armstrong Contracting and Supply, both in Savannah, GA.  He moved his family to Spartanburg, SC in the mid seventies to work as the Southeast Manager for Foster Products division of Amchem.  However, he discovered that he enjoyed working with his hands and tools more than working in an office.  He had a long and successful career in construction, including work at nuclear plants all over the United States.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Rhonda Greene Costner; a son, Robert (Michael) Greene; brothers, Claude Greene, Clyde Greene, Leman Greene, and Ira Edenfield; and sisters Doris Dotson and Vivian Ruiz.

He is survived by a daughter, Kim Greene Fellner (Bob) of Johns Island, SC; son, Mitchell Greene of Beaufort, SC; and son-in-law Bill Costner of Spartanburg, SC.  In addition to his children, "Papa" leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Joshua Costner (Jessica) of Port Washington, New York; Jacob Costner of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Jordan Costner (Mallorie) of Salmon, Idaho; Anna Dearybury of Seattle, Washington; and Katherine (Katie) Simmons (Bradley) of Wadmalaw Island, SC.  He also leaves six precious great grandchildren along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Bob was a Blue Lodge member, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and an ALEE Shriner, all of Savannah, GA.  He was a member of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers Local 96 in Pooler, GA for 68 years.  He was also a member of the Marine Corps League and supported many organizations that honored and assisted veterans.

He enjoyed travel, gospel music, and was an avid reader of history, mystery novels and current events.  He enjoyed all sports, particularly college football.

Bob moved to Johns Island for the last 2 and a half years of his life to be closer to his family.  He loved the abundance of fresh local seafood available, with shrimp and grits being his favorite.

Although he enjoyed his time in the upstate and the low country, his heart never left the Savannah area, which he always considered home.
