Robert "Bob" Hutchens Sisson

Robert "Bob" Hutchens Sisson, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, and Alger, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, in Charleston, South Carolina, after a lengthy illness. Born on October 30, 1937, in Columbia, Missouri, Bob was the son of the late Robert Stanley Sisson and Margaret Louise Hutchens Sisson.

After graduating from Hickman High School in Columbia, Missouri in 1955, Bob attended the University of Missouri where he majored in History and pledged ATO. He met Anita Gerrard (Del) who was a student at Stephens College, also in Columbia, and they married in 1965, raising their three children and pursuing their careers in the Detroit, Michigan, area where Bob worked in industrial sales and Del in education.

They built a lake house in northern Michigan where they created wonderful memories with family and friends. Bob had a lifelong passion for learning and adored the opera, chamber music, and jazz. He was an avid sports fan, especially of his adopted University of Michigan Wolverines. He was a great cook and connoisseur of everything delicious.

After retiring, Bob and Del spent much of each year in Charleston, SC, where Bob relished being a key part of his grandchildren’s lives. He also played an active role for many years in the Center for Creative Retirement of the College of Charleston.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and brother Gerald Sisson. He is survived by his wife Del; his children Heidi Hocking (Gary), Jonathan Sisson, and Erin Kosak (Ed); his grandsons Joseph Kosak and Eman Kosak; and his brothers Thomas Sisson [Marsha] of Columbia, Missouri] and Sam Sisson (Cindy) of Evanston, Wyoming.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
