Richard J. Douglas passed away on December 3, 2024, after a courageous four and a half year battle against cancer. Rick was genuinely interested in other people. He was loving and quick to forgive. He will be deeply missed by many.
Born in Muncie, Indiana, he is survived by his wife, Barbara L., and his three sons, Michael, Steven, and Donovan. He is survived by his parents Joseph W. and Barbara E. Douglas, siblings Michael J. (Kelly), Kimberly M. Batts (Daniel), his nieces Avery, Rowen, Mckenna, nephew Caden, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Leonard J. and Martha Jane Douglas and Richard A. and Elizabeth Bolen.
Richard graduated from The Ohio State University. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Italy for most of his service. His heart was in law enforcement, and he served as a police officer for Walterboro and Charleston Police departments.
Rick was artistic and creative. He did paintings, clay art, and soap making. He loved LED lights and added them to baby carriers, wagons and cars. He enjoyed creating light bars for emergency vehicles.
For many years he was a member of the Jeep Club and Midnight Mopar’s where he made many lifelong friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4255 Hwy 165, Yonges Island, SC 29449, Inheritance of Hope, or a charity of your choice in Richard’s name.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 4255 Hwy 165, Yonges Island, SC 29449.
A Celebration of Life will follow the service at 4654 Archfield Ave. Meggett, SC 29449. (Gate Code 5588).
