Richard A. Balcum Sr., of N. Myrtle Beach, SC passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015. Born in Utica, NY on January 10th, 1933. He was the son of the late Earl and Sophia Balcum. Dick graduated from Whitesboro High School in 1951. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Dick worked for 7 years at Remington Road followed by a 30-year career at Syroco as a computer operator. Dick married Sue McCullough on Dec. 1st, 1956 and together raised 7 children. Sue passed away in March 1994. He married his second wife, Marian Viele in June 1997. She passed on in 2013. Dick was also predeceased by a brother Robert and a sister Edna. Dick loved to travel and went on a total of 28 cruises with each of his wives. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge. Survived by his children, Richard A. Jr, (Gary) of Austin, TX. James T. (Sue) of Superior, WS. Francis L. of Utica, NY, Gene C. (Amy), of Liverpool, NY. Mary Ellen of Las Vegas, NV. Amy Sue of Syracuse, NY. Matthew J. (Michelle)) of Camillus, NY. Dick also had 9 grandchildren. Dick is also survived by his loving care givers, step-daughter, Jackie Beiden and step-son-in-law Brian Hoogkamp, of N. Myrtle Beach, SC. A private service was held on Monday, February 2nd, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home in Charleston, SC.
