Richard Alan Boylston

Richard Alan Boylston, 73, of Mt. Pleasant, SC entered into eternal rest on Thursday, October 13, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born on Friday, October 30, 1942 in Temple, TX to the late Mrs. Rene Genevieve Boylston and the late Mr. William Lamar Boylston. Richard was a graduate of the Citadel, Class of 64’, and a Masters of History from the University of Mary Washington. He served three years in the U.S. Coast Guard and then pursued a career as a civilian with the Department of Defense for thirty years. Upon retirement Richard returned to his true home, Charleston, SC. He enjoyed history, dancing, coaching youth sports, umpiring, and creating a pleasant atmosphere for all. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather and dear friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Alice F. Boylston, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two sons, David L. Boylston (Colleen), of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Chad P. Boylston (Maggie), of Temecula, CA; sister, Rita Griffin, of Water Valley, MS; ten grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and loving friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464 on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 11:30 AM. Reception to follow at RiverTowne Country Club, 1700 RiverTowne Country Club Drive, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his memory to Alzheimer’s Association, 2090 Executive Hall Road, Charleston, SC 29407.
