Raymond Glenn Miehe, 93, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017. He was born on Saturday, August 4, 1923 in Dubuque, IA, son of the late Della Bevan Miehe and the late Raymond G. Miehe. Ray served in WWII in the Navy on board the aircraft carrier USS Kitkun Bay (CVE 71) in the Pacific Ocean. For his service he was awarded the American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. Ray worked for John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works as a quality control inspector, was a member of the American Legion and the Masons. Ray enjoyed traveling with family, camping during summer vacations and for years during retirement in a “fifth wheel camper†staying below the “frost beltâ€. One of Ray’s hobbies was making frames for Carmen’s many paintings. He and Carmen settled in Charleston shortly after Hurricane Hugo. He was a member of Holy Spirit Lutheran Church. Besides his parents, Raymond is predeceased by his sister Elizabeth (Betty) Jacobs and his brother Bevan (Ben) Miehe. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Carmen Jean Ingwersen Miehe, of Charleston, SC; three sons: Bill Miehe and his wife, Phyllis, of Bonneau Beach, SC; Ben Miehe and his wife, Jenny, of Charleston, SC; and Bruce Miehe and his wife, Melody, of Scappoose, OR; eight grandchildren: Sean Miehe, Angela Kirch, Jill Currin, Amber Christoff, Eric Miehe, Phillip Miehe, Jessica Miehe and Alexa Davidson; seven great-grandchildren: Kelsey, Steffanie, and Bailey Miehe, Madeline and Elsa Kirch, Jake Miehe and Ryder Currin.
