Mr. Randall Wayne Cox, Sr., 68, of Charleston, SC passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Born on April 23, 1956 in Miami, FL, he was the son of the late Rutledge E. Cox, Sr. and the late Inez Spalviero Cox.
Randy attended elementary through high school on James Island, graduating from Ft. Johnson High in 1976 and was fondly referred to as "Ragu" by his high school classmates. He continued at Trident Technical College for his vocational studies. Growing up Randy had a special bond with water, both in it and on it. He was an avid surfer and was a regular at the Folly Beach washout. He was especially proud of his father/daughter surfing times. Randy was also an avid fisherman who reveled in sharing his skills with his children and grandchildren. His love of shrimping was also a family event from catching and cleaning to cooking! Perhaps there is no irony that he took his career with the Charleston Waterworks! From a child Randy always had pets around as he had a genuine affection for animals. It was not uncommon for him to rescue or adopt more than one at a time. He was known to always have a story to share, often long, but always entertaining. His thick Charleston Geechee brogue only added to the narrative!
Randy was a caring man who dedicated his life to help others where he could. He carried lifelong friendships from childhood through adulthood and fostered relationships he created with co-workers and customers from his 30 years at CPW and with his healthcare team. He often put his dedication to family before his own self. As his parent's health declined and as his children navigated life events, he accepted the tasks and never complained. Even during his struggle with cancer, Randy never complained up to his final breath. He intuitively loved from his heart rather than his head.
In addition to his parents, Randy is preceded in death by his daughter, Audrey Cox.
Randy is survived by his loving wife, Laura Cox; his brothers, Rutledge E. Cox, Jr., (Alicia) of Maggie Valley, NC and Raymond G. Cox, (Jeff Thompson) of Orlando, FL; his two children, Candice Cox of Las Vegas, NV and Randall W. Cox, Jr. of James Island, SC; his four grandchildren, Kendrick, Levi, Jonas and Max; and his loving nieces, cousins, and in-laws. He is also survived by an incredible circle of friends and medical team.
