Ralph Benedict Marley, 91 of Smithtown, NY, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022 in Charleston, SC.
Born on April 29, 1931 in Syracuse, NY, Ralph was the son of the late Leslie Marley and Ida Mae Marley (Cosaboon).
Ralph left Upstate New York after obtaining his degree from SUNY Oswego. After service in the US Navy, Ralph settled Downstate NY on Long Island. He had an accomplished career in education as a teacher. He enjoyed the students, parents, colleagues, and community during his 40-year career. He met his wife, Alice, teaching and together they married and had a family. An avid reader, classical music enthusiast, antique collector, Ralph enjoyed a good part of his retirement in Charleston, SC.
His granddaughter, Caroline, best described Pop-Pop as a loving, charismatic, kind-hearted, intelligent, funny and passionate man. He touched so many lives and lit up every room he walked into; I only wish everyone in the world could have met him.
Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Ida Mae Marley, his wife Alice Horan Marley, and his five brothers. Ralph is survived by one son, Christopher Marley; two daughters, Kathleen Marley, and Eileen Marley; granddaughter, Caroline Marley-Nicholas, and many extended family and friends.
A great friend, family member and citizen to others, Ralph will be greatly missed.
