Penny F. 'Penny' Shoemaker (Forster)

Penelope “Penny” Louise Forster Shoemaker, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, SC died on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 28, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Stella Maris on Friday, July 29, at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens cemetery. She was born June 28, 1936 in Leavenworth, KS to the late Brigadier General George J. Forster and Shirley M. Forster and grew up in San Antonio, Texas. Devoted wife of William C. Shoemaker, her loving husband of 28 years and selfless mother of seven children; Catherine Crallé, Elizabeth Badawy, Merry Jones (David), Penelope Crallé, Nancy Carmody (Michael) Robert Crallé (Minaki), Christopher Crallé (Leah), two stepdaughters, Lynnette McCraken (Matt), Patricia Barrick (Billy) and 14 grandchildren. Sister to George, Shirley and her deceased brother, Joe. Her Catholic faith was her joy and she served God through teaching catechism at Stella Maris and through her defining kindness to all she met. She used her gifts of healing as a nurse in Fairfax, VA until she and her husband retired to Mt. Pleasant in 2002 to be near family.
