Peggy Nell Easterling Rozelle was born on December 31, 1936, to John Taylor Easterling and Mary Nell Bevis Easterling of Sylacauga, Alabama. She passed away on February 26, 2023, in Charleston, South Carolina.
Peggy grew up in Sylacauga, Alabama. She graduated from Sylacauga High School in 1955, University Hospital School of Nursing in Birmingham (now UAB) in 1958, and received her Master of Nursing degree from Emory University in 1976.
She met James Phillips Rozelle in her hometown while in High School, and they married in 1958. They moved to Marietta, Georgia, where Jim became an engineer at Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and Peggy an ER nurse at Kennestone Hospital. While raising a family, she went on to teach nursing at Kennesaw State University and Brenau University.
In 2007, she moved to Charleston to be close to her daughter, after the death of her husband of 37 years. During this time, she and two childhood friends wrote a book about her beloved hometown, Sylacauga, published in 2014. She lived in the Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community for the past 5 years.
Religion was an important part of her life, and she was a faithful and active member of St. James Episcopal Church in Marietta and Grace Cathedral Church in Charleston.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Easterling Strickland, of Greenville, South Carolina; her daughter Margaret Rozelle of Charleston, South Carolina, and her son Blair Rozelle (Susan) of Marietta, Georgia, and grandchildren Blair and Parker.
She will be buried next to her husband at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL on March 13, 2023, at 11:00 am at 1501 Talladega Hwy, Sylacauga, AL 35150, phone 256-245-4641.
