Paul John Moran, born on June 21, 1943, in New York, New York, passed away on September 15, 2024, in Charleston, South Carolina. A man of great dedication and purpose, Paul lived a life of service, compassion, and a deep love for his family and community.
Throughout his life, Paul exemplified the values of volunteerism and mentorship. He diligently practiced Ju Jitsu, embodying discipline and respect throughout his martial arts journey. His commitment to helping others was demonstrated through his volunteering efforts with Hospice, where he provided comfort and support to those in need during difficult times. Additionally, his involvement with Big Brothers, and Big Sisters, showcased his dedication to guiding and uplifting young lives, fostering connections that made a lasting impact on the community. Mostly, Paul was a man of faith, and being a Carmelite, he practiced a way of life emphasizing prayer, contemplation, and a strong connection with God.
Paul was also a proud member of the Coast Guard, serving honorably as a Chief Warrant Officer (W-4) and later as a Senior Special Agent with SLED, where his commitment to duty and integrity was unparalleled. His colleagues knew him as one who enacted positive change in all areas of his professional life.
In his personal life, Paul cherished the time spent with his family and his beloved dog, Max. He found joy in watching movies, whether enjoying a classic film with loved ones or discovering a new story that captivated his imagination. His warmth, humor, and engaging spirit will be deeply missed, and he leaves a legacy of kindness, strength, and a willingness to serve others. His memory will forever hold a cherished place in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life.
Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Murial (Wasicka) Moran; brother, John McLaughlin, and son Patrick Moran. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Carole Sue (Stewart) Moran; daughter, Candace Oliver (Charles Oliver ); son Michael Moran of Dallas; and grandsons Camp and Cai Oliver.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 30, 2024, at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation, 347 Folly Road, Charleston, South Carolina, 29412. A service will follow at 2:00 pm, also at McAlister-Smith.
