Patricia Wynne (Kinney) Barnes Mt. Pleasant, SC Ms. Patricia (Pat) W. Barnes (93) joined her final resting place on September 18, 2023. Pat was born in Olney, Maryland on December 14, 1929 to the late Captain Charles J. Wynne and Alice Virginia Brown. She is the granddaughter of James W. and Beulah G. Brown of Brookeville, MD and Mary Ellen McCabe Wynne and Robert J. Wynne, former US Postmaster General and Ambassador to Great Britain during President Theodore Roosevelt’s administration.
After graduating from Sherwood High School in 1948, she attended the University of Maryland where she was a member and President of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, a varsity cheerleader, and where she met her first husband, Eugene P. Kinney. Pat and Gene raised 5 wonderful children and were involved in many philanthropic activities, including youth hockey and AFS Intercultural Program. Pat also led the family through Gene’s corporate moves with Chevrolet Motor Division to include Buffalo, NY, Livonia, MI, Cedarburg, WI, Cincinnati, OH, and Charlotte, NC. Following Gene’s passing in August 1980, Pat remained in Charlotte and worked for a travel agency. She then found her passion when she became a real estate agent with Cottingham Chalk Real Estate Company.
In March 1993, Pat married Dr. John W. Barnes of Middletown, OH. They enjoyed traveling to Europe, Asia, and around the USA to visit family and friends. In between travels, they spent much of their time in Middletown, OH, Isle of Palms, SC, Advance, NC and Frankfort, MI. They remained happily married for 20 years until Jack’s passing in August 2013. Pat’s family would like to thank the employees at Somerby of Mt. Pleasant, where Pat lived for the past 2 years.
Pat was predeceased by two of her five children: James W. Kinney of Charleston, SC and John M. Kinney of Glenwood Springs, CO. She is survived by three of her children: Paul G. (Ann) Kinney of Aiken, SC; Lawrence P. (Mimi) Kinney of Traverse City, MI and Laura K. (Todd) Francis of Isle of Palms, SC. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, great grandchildren, step children, and step grandchildren. Pat’s grandchildren include: Gene Kinney; Sarah (John Lamprecht) Kinney; Meghan (John) Avrett, along with their children, Forest and Wynne Avrett; James Kinney; Erich Kinney; Emily Kinney; Cora Kinney; Adam (Morgan) Francis; Katherine Francis; Merritt Francis; and Benjamin Francis. Pat’s step children include Sarah Blaikie, Amy MacKay, and Jim Barnes; and her step grandchildren include Sam Blaikie, Wil Blaikie, Gabe Blaikie, Bailey Barnes, Noah Barnes, Fisher Diede, and Henry Diede.
