Opal Harrison Deason, 101, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017.
She was born on July 2, 1916, in Hendersonville, NC, to the late Pearl K. and Otto A. Anders. She was the eldest of nine children.
Opal loved her house in Stono Park, where she resided for 52 years until the age of 95. She was passionate about traveling, golfing, boating and shrimping in the creek, and her Miami Dolphin team. She water skied until the age of 70.
Along with her parents, Opal was predeceased by her first husband, Randolph T. Harrison; her second husband, Robert J. Deason; brothers: Earl Anders, O. A. Anders and Don Anders; sisters: June Taylor, Margie Sutton and Marie Picard; stepson, James Deason; and granddaughter, Lisa Harrison.
She is survived by sons: R. Tucker Harrison (Diane) of Taylors, SC and Michael A. Harrison (Joanne) of Charleston, SC; stepdaughter, Diane Wiley of McKinney, TX; stepson, Charles Deason ( Inez) of Baton Rouge, LA; sisters: Bobbie Schmauch of Greenville, SC and Jean Lewis of Spring Hill, FL; ten grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A celebration of Opal's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Hospice, 1885 Rifle Range Road, #46, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464, or the charity of your choice.
