Olga Mercedes Urrutia, 90, of Charleston, died December 8, 2014. Born in Catano, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Nils and Mercedes Gustafson. Olga was raised in New York and worked for the Federal Reserve and as a seamstress. Her most important job was raising her family. She will be remembered as a dedicated and giving mother and friend. Along with her parents, Olga is preceded in death by her husband, Mario Urrutia; son, Richard Urrutia; and daughter, Gerardine Urrutia Mangum. She is survived by four sons: Ronald Urrutia (Lee) of NC; Mario Urrutia of Melbourne, FL; Francis Urrutia of MD and John Urrutia (Christy) of GA; four daughters: Linda Olds (Johnny) of GA; Maria Courtney (Willie) of Charleston, SC; Ann Eileen Urrutia (Jennifer) of Charleston, SC; Irene Patrick (Jacob) of Charleston, SC; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 12, 2014, from 7:00pm until 9:00pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel. A funeral service will be held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at 11:00am, with Pastor Ryan Lyles officiating.
