James Island - Mrs. Norma Strickland Sanders, age 76, of James Island and widow of the late John T. Sanders, Jr. passed away Friday, July 31, 2015 at her home. Norma Sanders was born on November 30, 1938 in Jesup, GA to the late Charles Norwood Strickland and the late Thelma Montgomery Johnson. A graduate of Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta, she was a retired Registered Nurse having worked at Roper Hospital for many years. After retiring from Roper she was a volunteer at Hospice of Charleston, she loved her affiliation with the Ladies Auxiliary of The Exchange Club of Charleston and she was passionate for our Veterans. Norma’s family remembers her for how she adored her family and grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter, Donna Sanders Wooten (Roy) of James Island; her son, John T. Sanders, III (Tammy ) of James Island; 4 grandchildren, Ross Wooten, Charlie Wooten, Cadence Sanders and Davis Sanders, all of James Island; 2 sisters, Charlene “Muffin†Harper of Brunswick, GA and Barbara “PeeWee†Jones of Jesup, GA, many nieces and nephews and caregivers. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 3, 2015 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, James Island Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10 AM. Burial will follow the service at Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island, SC. Memorial donations may be made to The Exchange Club of Charleston, Exchange Park, P.O. Box 762, Ladson, SC 29456.
