Norma Pacenta

Norma Pacenta, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, SC died on Sunday, July 20, 2014 in Mount Pleasant, SC. She was born on Monday, February 4, 1924 in Mt. Carmel, PA to the late Mrs. Stella Pacenta and the late Mr. Joseph C Pacenta. Norma lived many years of her life as a member of The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She also served as a missionary in Laos, Kenya, and Papua New Guinea. In 1973, Norma served on the faculty of MUSC, College of Nursing in Charleston. She was a registered nurse, a certified midwife and a certified nurse anesthesiologist. As a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church, Norma served as a eucharistic minister, and lay reader. Quietly observed she was a daily communicant and her practice of faith was an inspiration to many. Norma was a great lover of animal life, especially dogs and wolves. She will be remembered by faculty, students, friends, family and parishioners as an outstanding member of MUSC and Christ Our King Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her two brothers; Joseph Pacenta and Thomas Pacenta of PA. She is survived by three sisters; Virginia Scarlet (John) of Churchville, MD, Rosemary Pacenta of The Villages, FL, Marianne Graves, of Arlington, VA, many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Rosary to begin at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ Our King Catholic Church, on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 10:30 AM. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial contributions in Norma's name may be made to Christ Our King Catholic Church or Sewee Visitor & Environmental Education Center, 5821 Highway 17 North, Awendaw, SC 29429.
