Nellie Jean Weidman

Jean Mangum Weidman, 90 of Summerville/Moncks Corner, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022.

Jean was born on April 16, 1932, in Durham, NC the daughter of the late Sally Cash Mangum and Van Buren Mangum.

She attended Bethany United Methodist Church after moving to Summerville in 1950., In the early years she helped with the nursery so others could attend church. In the later years she enjoyed the companionship of the members of the Kate Howard Cross Sunday School class. She was awarded a life time membership in the PTA for 24 years of continuous participation for the benefit of her children and so many others. She was a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader and the organizer the neighborhood turned to in times of need. She helped so many people in her lifetime she has earned her heavenly wings.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Robert O. (Bob) Weidman, a son Robert D. (David) Weidman, brother John Alex Mangum and sisters Betsy M. Hunt, Sally M. Wilson, Doris M. Pickard, close cousin B. F. Paschal, nephews Sam Hunt, Joe Walker and Tom Jefferies.

Jean is survived by her daughter Roberta Melton (Kenneth), son Roger Weidman (Ingrid), granddaughters Kristine Melton, Autumn Weidman and Valerie Haymans, sisters Lula Mangum, Martha M., Duke, and Vann M. Rhew and multiple generations of nieces and nephews and cousins.

There will be a visitation at McAlister-Smith Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at 869 St James Ave Goose Creek, SC 29445.

The graveside service will be held at Carolina Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 11:45 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
